Nilüfer Municipality, one of the twelve FUSILLI Living Labs, has continued its free seedling distribution campaign launched in 2020 with the slogan “Seedlings from Us, Products from You” in order to encourage the public to cultivate balconies, terraces and roofs, to pass on the ancestral seed to future generations and to draw attention to the importance of agricultural production. 350 thousand tomato, pepper, eggplant seedlings obtained from ancestral seeds were distributed in front of Nilüfer Municipality for 5 days on 17-21 May 2021.

The Mayor of Nilüfer Turgay Erdem, who also participated in the seedling distribution campaign, which attracted great attention from the first day, stated that they are making efforts to popularize agricultural production in Nilüfer and to ensure that everyone has access to healthy food. President Turgay Erdem stated that they are working to keep local seeds and ancestral seeds alive and to transfer them to the future, instead of hybrid seeds that make the producers foreign-dependent, and stated that they aim to spread balcony agriculture in Nilüfer and make everyone enjoy the production. “On this beautiful spring day, when we witness the awakening of the soil, we want your children to experience the taste of growing vegetables in your homes with these seedlings and eating them from their branches. We want your balconies and terraces to turn into mini gardens; Let the unmedicated peppers, tomatoes, eggplants grow. We want to introduce future generations to agriculture and encourage them to produce. Most importantly, we want to teach your children the importance of our ancestral seeds and that the most valuable legacy we will leave to the future is healthy food. ” he said.

Mayor of Nilüfer Turgay Erdem wished the seedlings to be productive to the citizens, and thanked the farmers from Nilüfer who contributed their efforts to the campaign and raised the seedlings.

“ Your hand will touch the soil, the seedling. Plant your seedlings on your balcony, terrace, or garden, pick your vegetables from the branch and eat.”
